Prof Dr Paul Kaye, from University of York and partner in the PREV_PKDL project, explores how flow cytometry can help to diagnose and develop a vaccine against leishmaniasis in a recent article published in Clinical Lab International digital magazine.
"To develop vaccines and indeed new drugs we often need new tools capable of performing in-depth comparisons of how the body's immune system is coping with infection when a patient is first admitted to hospital and how it changes as a patient undergoes treatment and is hopefully cured."
